MF Bucktail is the most premium bucktail available on the market today. Hand selected deer hair and custom-dyed in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Good bucktail is the perfect fly tying material for building beautiful, lightweight, and water-shedding flies.
The tails are put into several grades. The fiber quality and fiber length are what determine the grades. What makes these tails so special is not the length, but the quality of fibers. Most bucktail is ruined in the dying process, but here we take extra measures to make sure that does not happen.
-
Clouser Grade is ~3 to 3.5 inches, measured at the top (typically the shortest hair on the tail). Hair quality is hollow. These are the tails are great for the classic clouser as well as many other musky, pike, saltwater, and bass flies. We use them in brushes and heads of many musky patterns as well as our favorite smallmouth bass patterns!
-
We also grade our Clouser tails based on fiber quality. Our Clouser grade tails are typically your hollow fibers that are perfect for spinning or other tying methods.
- If you are interested in softer, less hollow hair, with longer length, check out our Hair Jig Grade Bucktail.
- If you are interested in the same fiber quality but longer fiber length, check out the A Grade Bucktail.
- If you are interested in the same fiber quality, but the longest fiber length, check out the AA Grade Bucktail. Note that this is extremely rare. We post on Social Media and our Email List when this grade is available.
